For the first time in years, the marine industry is showing some signs of improvement. But how positive are those signs? Composite Manufacturing’s Jan/Feb State of the Industry feature by Ray MacNeil gives a comprehensive report on not only the outlook for the marine sector but also the Sport & Rec, Aerospace, and Heavy Truck.
According to the report, the industry is likely to achieve new boat retail sales of 190,000-210,000 in 2012.
Of course this is no where close to the units sold in the 80’s and 90’s, but the silver lining here is that these numbers show the end of a continuing downward trend over the last several years. Sales for boats in 2009 totaled 207,000 units, followed by and even worse 188,000 sold in 2010.
